As we welcome 2026, the Reykjavik Internet Exchange is proud to announce that we've started the year with record-breaking traffic levels and exciting new developments that will benefit all our members and the broader Icelandic internet community.

Record Traffic Achievement

Throughout December 2025, RIX experienced sustained traffic levels exceeding 180 Gbps during peak hours, marking a significant milestone in our operations. This represents a 25% increase compared to the same period last year, demonstrating the growing reliance on local internet exchange infrastructure.

New Peering Opportunities

We're excited to announce that several international content providers and CDN operators have expressed interest in establishing presence at RIX during 2026. These new connections will bring popular content closer to Icelandic users, improving latency and reducing dependency on international transit.

For existing members, this means enhanced peering opportunities and the potential to reduce your transit costs while improving service quality for your customers. We encourage all members to actively participate in peering arrangements with these new partners.

Infrastructure Enhancements

Following the successful rollout of additional 100G ports in late 2025, we're continuing to invest in our infrastructure to meet growing demand. All three RIX locations (Tæknigarður, ISNIC headquarters, and Múlastöð) now offer ample capacity for new connections and upgrades.
